The Roman Villa of Strongyli is one of the most important archaeological monuments of Epirus and is located near Arta. It is a luxurious rural villa of the late Roman period, dating from approximately the 4th to the 6th century AD. The name “Strongyli” comes from the special circular building that existed in the center of the complex, a characteristic that is quite rare for Roman architecture in Greece. The villa probably belonged to a wealthy landowner or official of the time and was not only a residence but also the administrative center of a large agricultural estate. The complex included residential areas, warehouses, baths and auxiliary buildings, showing the organized lifestyle and economic prosperity of the area during Roman times. Particularly impressive are the mosaic floors that have been uncovered during the excavations. The mosaics are decorated with geometric shapes, floral motifs and artistic representations, demonstrating the high level of art and aesthetics of the era. Also found are parts of marble decoration, ceramic objects and elements of the villa's water supply and heating system. The Roman Villa of Strongyli testifies to the great importance that the area of Arta had during late antiquity, as it was located at a point of commercial and strategic value. Through the findings, archaeologists can study the daily life, economy and architecture of the Romans in Epirus. Today the monument is considered an important example of Roman cultural heritage and contributes to the preservation of the historical memory of the region.
