The quick read before you decide.
Koronisia consists of small islands in a circular arrangement that are joined together by narrow strips of land, forming internal lakes, giving the image of a Polynesian atoll. It has been thought that the islands were once joined together in a single landmass and that the narrow strip of land that joins them is a remnant of its mainland. However, their current morphology and the alternations of the shades of the water create a picturesque environment that has rightly been characterized as the Greek "Polynesia". At the same time, it is also a magical wetland, harmoniously integrated into the wealth of the Amvrakikos Gulf. The area is famous for the numerous species of fauna that it hosts. The rare and endangered species of the silver pelican (approximately 35 pairs) inhabits the Tsoukalio lagoon, while the warm, shallow waters are an ideal breeding ground for many species of marine fauna. Sole, sea bream, sea bass, sea bream, eels, shrimp, cuttlefish and rays are just some of the fish species that nest in the waters of Koronisia.
